Getting caught on a quote because of matted bloody kikuyu. Did a job today that turned into a monster. Took me twice as long as I estimated and it was all because the bloody kik had matted so densely. Plus the fact that the owner neglected to tell me there were massive holes in the yard that the kik had grown into and filled up. I quoted it on a set price for the cut plus dumping. Did my ar*e on the cut but thank christ I ballooned the dumping price. Saved the day in the end. Bloody kik was so matted it made it a really hard job with two blokes going hammer and tongs. To make it worse it rained every 5 bloody minutes. Was a **** of a day and one that will remind me to walk a job over better next time. Owner was good though and has paid up and we are on a reg after this for whole garden maintenance so I guess all is well. Still got a sore back though. 41 chaff bags of grass to the dump.
    Cheers

41 bags. Holy crap. I thought I had done some big kik jobs.

I learnt a while ago though Bluey. When I quote a kik job I even get down on my knees in a few places and check how thick the thatch or matting is before quoting.

I feel your pain nothing worse than matting you weren't expecting.

Some people are total "Palm Artists" aren't they.
I hope that you charge them accordingly.
I have a block of flats like that as well, now that things are slowing down a bit I'll hang on to it for now but when the wet season rolls around again that job will be getting the chop (no pun intended) if I can replace it with something else.

My brother just bought a 3 acre property, should get him round there to push mow and catch the whole lot for $15.00 max, may as well get him to wash the car as well.

Don't know whether it's a kid who has dropped out of school or what but here's a rundown of what I can remember reading:

Mowing - $10 to $15 max - your mower, your fuel, your lawn
Car washing - $5 - at your house, using your equipment, your car

There were a couple of other services offered too but I can't recall at the moment.

The School we mow that thought rocks would be a good idea in the garden beds, not just little river stones either, we're talking rocks the size of my palm, and flat so they hide in the grass. It's a wonder no-one has put them through a window yet.
Not to mention the line of cabbage trees around the perimeter of the field, for those who don't know what cabbage trees are, they're basically flax on a stick. Up to 6 metres tall and shed leaves like a b*tch. And every time work gets done round the school a warratah (or star standard I think you guys call them) seems to get forgotten in the long grass. All the picnic tables seem to get dragged out onto the grass, not just little ones the kids might have moved but those huge octagonal ones takes 2 or more strong adults to lift. And why do kids go home without their school bags, shoes, clothes etc just leave them on the grass? I would have been half murdered if I'd gone home without any one of these items.
And the School wonders why there price is going up.....

Standing in the early morning cold and rain watching the tackers play sport for 2 hours while Timmy is inside the nice warm exhibition centre working the Automotive Aftermarket Expo.....I think it only fair that we share standing around breathing on to our hands and hugging our coffees to try and keep warm. Basketball is much more civilised, indoors, heated, seating. Still, I love watching them play.

We have 2 girls playing netball on Saturday mornings beginning at 9am rain, hail or shine. One playing basketball on Thursday nights and softball on Wednesday after school plus 4 lots of training. No wonder it feels like we are never home and I am a bit grateful that the youngest gave basketball a miss this season, it was becoming a logistical nightmare.
