I nearly fell over. At first I thought he was joking but he filled it up and while I was inside to pay I looked out and he was washing the windscreen! I had to check the date on the newspapers to see if I had gone through some sort of time warp portal. Only thing he didnt do was top up the oil and check the tyres but hey maybe I should have asked! If it wasnt so far from my house Id fill up there every time, mainly to because he was nice about it and didnt seem like he was just doing it coz he had to. What a spin out!
My wife tells me this is still common practice in Japan. She had no idea how to put petrol in a car when she first moved here.

That hasn't been a problem around here yet, but I take your point. I only do it if it's really busy and it's only to keep the queue moving. In some places in the States you have to go in to the cashier and give them your credit card first, then they will turn the pump on.

No credit card - no gas!!

You'd be surprised how fast us we service station workers could move if we thought someone was going to do a drive off. 'Course, that's when we had forecourt staff that would pump gas for the customers, I would've stood in front of a car to stop it. Mind you, you can usually spot the ones who aren't simply moving their car by the body language, type of car, age and/or skin colour.
Is it really against the law in Oz for you to move the car without paying, or is it more likely that the cashier can't clear the sale from the computer till it's paid, which releases the pump for the next sale? Surely if it's against the law, it doesn't count till you've left the premises.

I would have thought that it isn't theft until you leave the premises. How can they stop you from moving your car ? It's your property after all. Need a lawyer on this one to settle it properly.

Ahh, but the petrol still belongs to the gas station 'till it's paid for

Well if your vehicle hasn't left the premises you're just moving it from their tank to another area of their property. What p!sses me off is when they come out and make me take my Jerry can off the ute and put it on the ground to fill it, yet I can fill up my ZTR tanks on the trailer no problem .... I don't get that one.

Ironically we have the opposite problem, they let us fill cans in the back of the ute, but not the huskie while it's on the trailer.
Which is stupid seeing as the trailer is earthed, but the cans aren't.

Try using Firefox or Chrome (also gets rid of Internet Exploders "new window opening about an inch square" bug. Now that makes me grumpy!)

Got an email from a client yesterday. She is a $45 lawn on 3 weekly atm. She has front, side and rear lawn with lots of edging. Has a fairly large area out behind this that she wants slashed every 3rd visit. I charge her $45 for the lawn and it takes us about 30 mins to do it give or take. When I do the back section it takes around 50 mins depending on the growth so I charge her $75 for that slash and drop plus the lawn. She has been with me about 18 months.

Anyway she emails me and says that another contractor had given her a quote to do her lawns for $33 and the back for an extra $10. Wanted to know if I would match it. I said no and explained to her how I priced her lawn and all about lawn grubs. Gave her the option to stay with me or jump ship to SS Lawn Grub. Nothing back yet. I am seething that this worm has done this and I am wondering if it is the VIP I see who has a couple of jobs in the area. I have asked my client who it is. If I find out it is bloody war. Two can play that game.
Well I finally got a reply from my client. I have done her job once more since I replied to her. She came back to me yesterday and it turns out it was Jimbo who provided her with the quote. This is pretty strange because I know most Jims would be charging higher than me but anyway it was a Jim's. She didn't say if she contacted him or he contacted her. Didn't do him much good because someone else undercut him and she has gone for that operator. She was ok about it but as I told her I was not prepared to lower my prices. I sent a reply back saying good luck and don't blame me when you new bloke doesn't turn up or does a s*** job. Now have to find another in that area to replace her.

Received an email enquiry yesterday for fortnightly mowing and gardening.

No contact details included, no phone number, no address.

No reply to my email asking for their details so I can book a time to quote the job.

Clairvoyancy isn't in my job description.

African Love Grass. It's as tough as nails and wraps around the spindle housings and eventually binds up the shafts and starts smouldering.
Huge bulk in the clippings and they take months to break down.

    Hate the stuff.
