"Success occurs when no one is looking, failure occurs when everyone is watching."
People who ride trail bikes thru the parks and chew up the grass,we had a nice park here but its got out of hand lately,,i thought me and the dog were going to get hit yesterday,,
Just got a call about a crab apple I pruned last week. It was a strata job and one old shelia seems to think I have killed the tree. I said yeah I go around killing peoples trees. Funny how everyone is an expert on gardens. I just said to the wife I am a qualified greenkeeper and horticulturist and this has not made one bit of differance in this job it pisses me off, they can get a new gardener now, people with no brains can get a hack. I also did some olive trees a while ago for a pub they wanted cut right back which I did, The publicans wife nearly had a heart attack when she seen em, I said don't worry they will come back better than ever, she hasn't had me back to mow the grass since but you should see the trees better than ever but when I did them everyone was saying oh you fcked the trees these dimwits wouldn't know their arsehole from their elbow.Thing is if you don't know what you are talking about don't comment. Do you find the same thing happens to you or am I just a cranky old bugger.Gee I was having a good friday night until that call now Im pissed off
Anything Ian says may or may not be garbage, it may also be his own opinion or it may not be his opinion at all, it may just be something he felt like stating anyone following his advice does so at their own risk and may be doing something Ian would actually advise against.
And if you don't like what Ian has to say use the ignore function if you don't know how ask i will gladly tell you
Funny how people get you to prune stuff and then have a whinge when you do it properly, don't get many people saying wow you did a great job later on when the pruning has improved the plant, or increased the fruit production.
What really makes me grumpy is the ones that stand and watch you and tell you how much to take off, why the f##k don't they do the job themselves.
Doesn't it piss you off!! I had similar with a lady's Roses. She has her garden in the open garden scheme and has stacks of Roses, but she couldnt get round to pruning them all and asked me to do it knowing I had worked at a Rose nursery. I was reluctant to do it but she eventually talked me into it. She had some weeping Roses that were just a mess, so I spent ages pruning out all the deadwood, got ripped to pieces on my arms and legs and had the back of the ute piled up high with clippings.
She was there when I did it and was happy with the job I did. A few days later she calls me telling me I have wrecked them and she spoke to some Rose expert and they say I have wrecked them and they will take two years to come back. They will be no good for her upcoming open garden etc.. I explained that I left lots of canes that will flower and have removed all the dead and diseased wood and that they will be much better once they flower in Spring with a lot more airflow through the foliage. I was doing the lawns with a friend and she complained about us putting clippings in her bin and was becoming a pita, so we just brushed her (it was my friends client).
I still did a job in her street and kept an eye on the Roses, and what do you know. They flowered beautifully that year and even the client I had down the road noticed how good they were and was wondering why I wasn't doing her lawns anymore. It really pissed me off at the time though! Especially as I put so much care into pruning them properly, only to be criticised.
Nosey old fogey neighbours with nothing better to do all day except watch me slash the vacant block next door, then come over and stop me half way through doing the job and ask if I am going to do that little bit over there that I missed.
It's not even his land for Christ sake !!!
F_ _ K off and get a life you old b@$t@rd !!!

gcs, its because you dont use a walker, that holland leaves so many snail trails . . .
JOKE JOKE JOKE
what ****s me is those mongrels who book you in for a job, you get there, quote a fair fee, say $85, and they say, oh, i was hoping to get it for $40 - but dont worry, i have 3 other guys coming today to give me quotes . . .
LOL Actually I was using a Massey Ferguson 135 tractor and a 5 foot slasher.
Re: that tight woman, all you can do is say "Have a nice day" and walk away. I have a little 80 cc scooter and I use that to go and do quotes with if I can because it uses bugger all fuel so if I don't get the job it's not a great loss.

better to stay home and make nothing than help an idiot undercut you.
i work hard enough when i'm working, that I cant be bothered with the cheapies - in summer i often say i have a minimum of $65 for the first/casual mow. If its not worth $65, its not worth me going out of my way.
I hate it when they say "what do you charge for a small yard" - Theyre ALWAYS small yards to them, even if its 6 foot high and takes ya 3 hours to do.
my answer is always "between $40 and $400, but i'll give you an accurate price when i see it"
I try to pre qualify the enquiry, but you still get trapped sometimes.
Hurts more in winter when youre not working much, to drive out especially for one of these jobs, and then have to just go back home.
But i wont work for chickenfeed - rather go back home and work there.
they can get some cheap arse with a mower in the sback of the station wagon.
Cant count how many times ive pruned roses back in winter and had people ask why im killing the roses they were so beautiful only to have them come back brilliantly.
