One grumpy cursing husband comes home last night saying that someone rang for a quote on garden maintenance for a sikh temple. The customer can only be there on sunday. Mark - no! Its christmas day! Customer - but can't you come in the morning. Mark - NO. This is not the first time we have had a request to come out on christmas day. Has anyone else been asked to come out on christmas day.

    I attend two properties side-by-side.
After mowing and blowing the clippings off the paths, I was then spot poisoning grass/weeds in paths and garden beds.
It was then this neighbor approached and let me know how he felt about some minor leaf litter that had been blown onto 'his' nature strip and gave me a mouthful.
(he must use a Victa-vac to remove all traces)
I suggested all he needed do was ask nicely and I would be very pleased to remedy this.
Instead, he raised the back of his hand and threatened - I'll break your glasses...
Fearing an altercation I spoke in an unexpected manner that was designed to put him off balance (I could never repeat with a lady present). I suggested where he would land if he lays a hand on me, where he can get to and how I perceived his heritage. This episode ended at this time, however I suspect he is nasty enough to damage a vehicle/trailer/equipment if left momentarily unattended.
To prevent this, or suffering another of his tirades (which I fear may become physical), I decided not return so another gardener can attend.

Pity, these are two great, long-term clients I am letting go.

Thought about standing firm on moral grounds, however where is the victory in altercations with an unreasoning aged pensioner with a bad attitude? Although you might have had harsher word with him, I felt it was ME that lost by resorting to such.
Now I have advised the owners what has happened, perhaps these owners might return some of this agro on the neighbour?
Besides, the season has ended here so I'm not stressed.
In this I decided I have far more to lose by staying put than walking away.
I am not a push-over, I just pick and choose my battles.

8.14 am Boxing Day, phone rings.....
"Were all in retail and are going to work. Thought might try our luck getting our lawn mowed today. Are you working?"
"No chance! I doubt you'll get anyone today! You might want to wait till later before calling anyone else! Goodbye!"
There was a bit more to it but thats the drift! WTF do some people think?

David, your throwing 2 good jobs away because of a grumpy old azzhole neighbour? I would just set up a video cam (in the front yard pointing back at the ute) to record anything he does. If he threatened me I would call the cops. You might want to remind him that he does not own the nature strip!
No way I would loose 2 jobs over him. NO WAY! Get evidence and get him arrested! He probably beats his wife and kids too!

If I walk into what could be a dodgy situation, I turn the voice recorder on my mobile phone on, and put it in my top pocket, records well, and gives you some evidence. Worked well with my landlord at one stage. Its not admissible in court apparently, but sufficicient to let anyone hear, and quickly shuts up anyone who thinks they can get away with it.

I hear you all - but at this stage I am not particularly concerned - esp. since I have been moving away from gardening as my bookkeeping grows - I want to keep low key.
The old guy lives on his own - if you met him you wouldn't need to ask why!
Re voice recording - I believe it IS admissible IF you ensure you let them know your conversation is recorded before you record them - and better still, the recording will give evidence of you advising them of this !

He might be that busy but he is mowing illegally that time of day on a public holiday.

Last week was my busiest week ever and my Aunty was saying today her lawnmower man said the same, so some folks are flat out i guess...

Way more than grumpy. A friend of Amanda's who doesn't think much of me was supposed to have fed the animals and watered plants while we were away over Christmas. We got back from Mackay yesterday evening. Went to check things this morning; animals had been fed but re plants: I had a new $20 Raspberry plant - now dead, a new $40 Lemon tree just planted - now dead, healthy bearing Capsicum bush - now dead, healthy bearing Chilli plant - near to death, Lemongrass - near dead plus about 5 other plants near dead.

Where's Jan...... I need to tell her I'm not gnikcuf happy!!!!!!!!!

Thank goodness the friend at least looked after the animals...much more traumatic all round if they ended up in the same state as the plants. Not meaning to denigrate your annoyance Paul, but I have been trying to "find the silver lining" in things this past year and it has sort of become a habit now.

True Joanne. I keep looking for the silver lining too with a lot of things but I think I need to go back to the Optometrist and get some new glasses maybe . I seriously think though it's because the animals are the family's; the plants are (were) mine.

I've pretty much given up on hoping for positive outcomes regarding anything. These days I just deal with whatever the situation may be, the best I can. Today my coping mechanism was to rip plants out, throw them angrily in the trailer and swear a bit.

    All better now....
