you men say that about everything!
Are you thinking what I'm thinking B2?
Yes B1 I think I am thinking what you're thinking!
had another 2 dollar millionaire on the phone today, "oh i live right around from the GOLF COURSE dont you know"
old mowing guy (hurt and retired now) charged $35 for an hour to 2 hours work, and if he trimmed the hedges or something, she threw in an extra $5 for him.
i nearly laughed at her, and her reaction when i said id be looking at $65 to even come say hello the first time, lol, it was PRICELESS.
how to explain that $35 gets you about half an hour ?
happy i didnt waste my time driving there.
had another call from a "poor" suburb, the Mr was mowing himself in about 2 hours, i quoted 60 to 90 bucks, she booked me in.
Last few weeks in no particular order...
had the flu week up to xmas loosing a heap of income. 2nd worst flu ever. Really kicked my azz!
Lost 3 jobs (buying or repairing mower)
Had to buy 2 new tires for trailer yesterday (almost a blow out). Was always going to by the tires but I hate being forced into it!
Today go to sharpen blades and round off bolt getting one off (re load SZ onto trailer go to mechanic and they get it off. Thanks Col from Nuban Mower Centre, your a legend) but had other things to do.
Must of eaten something suspect last Sunday as have had vomiting and diarrhoea and just felt like cr@p, and top it off, the heat ATM isnt fun. Still crook.
Lost another job today as sold house (first of I think 4 customers with houses up for sale) and moving to Hong Kong.
Did a quote yesterday told her over the phone I only do weekly or fortnightly (she agreed), spent 20mins looking around property give price, "How much for monthly?"
Today get a call for a quote look it up on google maps and dosnt look to far away except I didnt zoom in enough only to find its miles out of the way and the property is slopes and terraces ( a ztr nightmare)(his young son started up there own little ztr and almost went over a retaining wall while I was there watching! Sooo close to going over it aint funny!) Anyway I said sorry cant help heres a number of a 4wd mower!
A customer recently put down some Sir Walter but its way to spongy and hes laid it out away from the house, not along it making like a washboard effect as I drive over. Id been really careful with mowing as I know he's a whinger. Anyway my front caster falls into a hole (that was caused by rubbish turf and laying) and I put this scalp mark in the turf about the size of a dinner plate. He calls me later and goes on about how HE wouldnt do that to someones lawn! I was sooooo pizzed off and went around and showed him why it happened, he didnt get it "Its my baby" he said! I was mowing at about 3.25 inches!
Work is slow with few calls for good new work (need to replace lost jobs at least). I know Im not the only one. Spoken to a few other lawnies that do similar to me, same, no good new calls. Col at Nuban Mowers (got my blade off) is an ex lawnie (but still in the loop) and said same. He usually gets 50 calls a month, this time he's had 1 call! This makes me worried!
Just hoping for some good rain to kick things on again. Hot dry winds have slowed it up big time. Rain and people back to work after xmas break, I have my fingers crossed things pick up!
Must be my turn to go through these trials and tribulations! Well and truly over it already!
I'm hearing ya Mick, fark it's slow at the moment.

Been an interesting few weeks for you Mick!
If it's any consolation it's as dry as out here too. Coming home every day covered in dust, black boogers etc!! Upon turning up to some of my regular fortnightly customers they're asking me to come back the following week; anything to keep their money in their wallet for an extra 7 days...
Forecast is for some good rain on Sunday and Monday but in the last week the 7 day forecast has changed completely every day so I'm not holding my breath.
a trick i have found helpful with rounded nuts is to either cut a straight line through the centre so you can get the blade of a screwdriver in or to file the edges of the bolt slightly so that you can fit a smaller size spanner on
Anything Ian says may or may not be garbage, it may also be his own opinion or it may not be his opinion at all, it may just be something he felt like stating anyone following his advice does so at their own risk and may be doing something Ian would actually advise against.
And if you don't like what Ian has to say use the ignore function if you don't know how ask i will gladly tell you
Thanks Ian but it needed a lot more than a screw driver and spanner. Think Breaker Bar! haaa Thanks mate!
Yeah Country, Id say quietest I can remember. Even lead up to xmas only a few calls. Had them lined up but got sick and lost them. 2 could of been regular! Spewin!
Paul, I can only imagine what its like out there. At least it makes for easy cutting! Love the dirt boogers!
My online 28 day rain forecast is high chance of rain next 3 weeks so http://www.weatherzone.com.au/long-r...outheast-coast Im hoping. Just a couple of days would be great.
Sh!ts me how they were saying "Its going to be another wet year!" Freaking idiots! Lets let water out of the dams just in case! I can change though, just needs to be soon.
It's not like we haven't had rain though but it's just drying out so quickly and I think last Summer is still on everyone's mind.
December 2009 here we had 157mm
December 2010 we had 452mm
December 2011 just gone we had 189mm
One-third of January has gone already and we've had 0.6mm so I say there is a fair bit to come soon!
Again last year we had 434mm but the previous two Januarys we only had 63mm and 100mm.
well today first off, had to take my farther to the hospital ( Getting a tooth pulled )
so i got to my first job late, then i started feeling my whipper snipper was looseing power finished the job not thinking too much about it, 2nd job the whipper snipper was getting worse, so i thought ill take it to my mower mechanic to have a look, But he was flat out and had no time, so i continued on all day with a whipper snipper that had no power, im thinking at this point did i put the wrong oil in or mucked up the measurments?? So on my way home i saw another mower shop and thought id ask the question he took a quick look and WALLAH found the problem, exhuast was blocked He told me i need to use more full throttel but who would of thought!
