I got this freebie from a client this morning. John Deere JS38 21" SP Residential mower. Looks brand new. I'll give it a test on my lawn this evening.

I looked into these as a dealer sold these, not so good reviews for contractors which made me think to look for something else.
Good time to stick it on gumtree
Yep, I'm pretty unimpressed with it BJ. I could put up with it if I was only mowing my own lawn weekly. It leaves a nice cut but that's about it.
I have the js48, ok for shortish lawns but no good for feral's, its easy to start and use, but I purchased it b4 getting better info from here. Side discharge clogs up on long stuff, however its a fair backup.
jameson dry and lime RTD ....finally, an RTD I can stomach lol
I dont break things ...I just use them beyond their operational limitations

Longish story so here we go. Had a clean-up yesterday day but missed the tip friday so went down there first thing. Free green waste week started yesterday so every man and his dog is there. While waiting in line looked over to metal area and here's a really really old HRU195 sitting there. Inquired to Council worker and said to see Rob at the Buy ack shop. Unload, then go and see Rob, but in a meeting (on Satuday?) Tell young lad there about the Honda and he says to come back later. Finish 5.5 hrs later come back with load of green waste and notice it's gone, so unload and back to Buy Back Shop. Lo and behold here's the 195 sitting there with a hold sticker on it. Same young lad comes up and says "A regular mower buyer came in so I whacked the hold sticker on it." Me says how much? He says $25. I say take 50 and give me a receipt for the 25. Get it home and carby full of water so quick clean of carby and fuel tank and starts first pull with no smoke and runs ultra smooth. Needs new front axle, catcher and possibly air cleaner housing (warped?). Everything else looks original, no slop in the axle grooves in the deck or height adjuster assembly. Even the axle bushes are perfect, wheels are a bit worn but all the bearings run smooth and red cowling is a little oxidised. Not that I need another 195, but I just love 'em so much.
Love it when a repeat dog **** offender in her grand effort to clean up the yard while I'm waiting, goes and stands on dog **** in bare feet. Was secretly pissing myself laughing. Made my day.
Anyone else get the impression that people who are struggling in some way are more generous than people who are wealthy and live in the expensive houses. I never get tips or gifts from the ones in the expensive houses with the expensive cars but have often got gifts from people with no car.
just finished a lawn for a multi millionaire, he's stood next to me at the bar and paid for his drinks with 10 & 20c coins many times....wouldn't shout if a dog bit him

Once i was slashing this feral place in a real dodgy area. The place hadn't been mowed in months and months if not a year. The job was payed for by a community group someone (probably funded by the gov). I thought the two occupants of the house were on drugs or something. I was thinking bloody bludgers and the normal sterotype thoughts you get. Anyway in the middle of the job out she comes with a nice cold glass of water, walked over to where I was and offered it to me. You can't judge a book by its cover.
Too right. I do a bit of work for a recently retired executive. Top bloke and always giving any produce from his garden. Top house in the top end of town. Beautiful gardens and always see something extra has been done to the place.
I naturally presumed that he was doing ok living off his super.
In reality,it's looking like he's going to lose the lot. Can't service the massive debt.
On a different note, I just got an email from a corporate client with excess funds in the gardening budget. Wants to know how we should spend it
