its been a bad start to the year with the old man passing , then this weekend we lost half the farm from bushfire...we had 250 firefighters and two helicopter cranes dumping water to save the homestead and our 60 year old botanical gardens...the paddocks and large gums were destroyed along with 3 km of fencing....but the positives to make me happy is the house and gardens were saved, mum got out alive almost taking out fire tenders as she quickly departed the property lol and the council rang me today saying they have heaps of bush fire funding to replace all of our fencing and lop all the dangerous trees standing...the other thing that makes us happy is we have heaps and heaps of fire wood to keep going.....the fire started from the power company working the day before in 40 deg heat and leaving a trailer wire dangling which arched the next day in 42 deg heat and bang fire was on....anyway we made the news with the fire bombers and 52 fire units....our long driveway is now well compacted and not one weed to see lol...anyway thank god for the CFA firemen and all the volunteers , a very special brand of men and women ......said to mum we have rock bottom and its all good time ahead, our bad luck is now over and good things are to come....said to her at least we dont have to slash the 40 odd acres of grass and all the crap undergrowth including blackberries is gone..they place will be a stunner we the regrowth starts
glad your mums ok geoff, everything else will regrow

Decent result from a bad situation Geoff. Thankfully it wasn't worse.
When you go through the side gate into the back yard and the women are out there sunbathing nude.. G'day ladies how R yah
I was beginning to think that was urban legend. Never happened to me and I've been busting through back gates for the last 10yrs. Were they hot or not?
Hi Geoff, glad all are alright. Just watch the Blackberries grow back, now will be the time to watch and spray when the new growth starts, will make it a lot easier to control so as you said good thing will comes.
glad mums all good geoff , sorry to hear about dad condolences , the fires aint good been lucky so far there a few kays away {straight line } but havnt seen the mountain top for a while due to the volumes of smoke etc , but ive been shaking my head this fire season at the volumes of people in last few weeks out slashing knee / waist high tinder dry padocks even on the total fire ban days .... cheers
thanks David, yep thats one thing certain that will regrow is the blackberries,,,,actually sprayed them two weeks ago but will be watching for the new regrowth to appear..
Thanks Geoff being a local you know the system well up there and we are getting plenty of support from the neighbors..
the shire blew me away with the money to replace all the fencing, with insurance many people only insure house contents and farm equipment but insure many k of fencing gets too expensive but some good has come our way,,,,
Crazy day today…
Being so dry at the moment wasn't sure how much work I had on today. Sent text to customer to collect some coin, no reply in time before I got to a crossroad (literally) turn right, left or straight.
I turned right and 20 seconds later phone rings. I pull over and answer. Was a quick little slashing sort of thing, nothing difficult. 45mins worth tops= A good earn.
Finish job, get in ute and theres a message from the local servo "can I mow? bla bla". I was going to drive past it anyway so I call in, have a quick look (Ive done it before) give them a price= A good earn and I had to push it out to 45mins and a free drink.
Go have a look at a job I was actually contemplating but its dry as, so go ask them yay or nay (this bits not so good). Old guy comes to door…. wearing his undies! WTF???? Ok, don't look down!
Anyway, he says may as well do it since your here. I said I wasn't going to but what ever you like. Wife steps up and says na, there having visitors next week. He says, "but he's here now, it will look fine next week." I said, its no problem (still not looking down) and wife says again… "next week!" He's like, "OK" he's kinda not happy about the wife butting in and I blurt out… "I see who wears the pants here!" They both crack up big time! Very nice older couple, very cool for there age! Kinda made my day all that! Reminded me of when I worked in house keeping at the casino back in the day. Delivered something (maybe an iron) to a room, very VERY old guy opens the door... stark naked! (shudder)
Anyway, then go have a look at another commercial job knowing it only needs a few spots doing due to grey water. Speak to caretaker knowing their tractor has broken down so I say, instead of mowing the usual, how about the other paddock that will get out of control as soon as we get any rain… Sure, lets do that he says!= A better earn than usual!
All in all, a very good day and completely out of the blue. 4hrs just riding and a very good laugh to boot!
Got a recommendation from the Barry Bros & it turned into a real good job.
The Barry bros, The Barry bros, who the $%^& are the Barry Bros ????
Cheers Fred.
