    Default Tendering for D.H.S contracts

    Hi all
I'm new to the site, and am loving everything about it.
Just wanted to throw a topic of discussion up.
I have been doing contract work through the D.H.S
    (Department of Human Services)
for a little over 3 years now
Some of you may know they recently came up for re-tender.
Reading through some of the Specifications, alot of what they ask is
not needed or unnecessary. Which means the more experienced businesses who have been dealing with these contracts know how to quote, but for the less experienced businesses trying to quote (by the specs) will naturally quote more.
Any thoughts on how to get around these kinds of issues.
    Cheers

I have done work for them for about 12 months and they have always asked for a price, sent someone around to have a look for themselves and then said ya or na. Just in the last week I have been asked to do another quote but this time they are getting a number of quotes and going for the cheapest one. This put me off straight away but I was near the address and thought I have nothing to loose so went and had a look and sent off a quote. Quoted the same as I would anyone else so see what happens. Not holding my breath as there are too many lowballers around.

They are good payers in my experience so definitely no problem there.

I was lucky with this exact gov department as they called me to help on a farm house with mega modulised gardens not too far from home.
They had rang a few guys before me and no one want it. It's my best income generator for hrs worked and the best part is that the folks that I'm assisting are the nicest people you could ever meet.
No quote, no tender and close to a full days work each visit.
Only draw back is the slow payment, but I can live with that as I know payment will come in due course.
    Cheers Garry

I find they are not only better payers but easier to deal with than a few other departments I wont mention. Especially the one that hates paying but loves taking when it comes to rego time.

How long do most here wait for payment, realising that regional/metro offices have different levels of urgencey within staff.
Whilst the internal audited processes must be the same across branches one would think.

Hi Doug they originally got my number from an add in the local paper and its continued on from there. You could contact your local DHS and go from there but its pretty competitive nowadays. And as you have seen from this thread they have a fair few on there books already. If you are looking for goverment tenders they have a website where you can see them all just google it cheers from Scooby .
