The deal she is talking about is offered by Vodafone.

I don't use it but I have a great data plan with them for my PDA...they are good to deal with.

Here's the link to their PrePay offer.

My brother just picked up a nice thin black flip-phone on a forty something plan with around the $250 mark of calls, but it's on contract. I cannot remember which carrier he is with though. He makes a packet of calls so it is worth it to him.
I still use a cheap pre-paid phone with a minimum card because I hardly ever use the phone to call with, and only my customers and wife have the number, so I dont have to stop work just for a chat to others.
If I was making heaps of calls though I would go for one of those, but not with vodaphone because they are probably the worst for reception in my area.

Aldi have a good deal on.
    $30 per month prepaid.
Unlimited calls / SMS/ MMS and 5 gig data.
    They use Telstra too.
Can easily port your number too.
The prepaid pack costs $5 at the supermarket.

Amanda's sister is a manager or A.m. at one of their stores here. Going to see if she knows any more about it. Seems a very good deal esp if it has the better coverage of Telstra without the hassles of dealing with their billing department.

Well I'm now a little more educated after reading this.

    http://telcoantennas.com.au/site/gui...obile-networks

Researched a little more about about the deal and it says "uses parts of the Telstra network" which may mean coverage in some areas may not be as good or fast. It has to be better than Vodafone though. (Long story but I have not been able to get out of my contract with them.)

Interesting. I was talking to my brother in law last night who deals with Telstra. He said 3g is working fine but not everywhere yet. Still allot of pockets around with nil coverage. The 4G network isnt running yet. And probably wont be for a long time yet.
Still, the Aldi deal is better than what im currently on.

FWIW I've gone from being on contract to prepaid with Telstra. Works out awesome and after being with Vodaphone for years the network is so much better.

If you recharge before the month is over, any balance carries over to the new month. If you purchase credit, lets say, $50 you can then use that $50 to purchase more data or the like.

aldi is $35 for unlimted use

but also has prepaid which lasts for 12 months if you are a low user

    http://www.koganmobile.com.au/
also is the same as aldi's service

    can buy
    1 month $29
    3 months $79
    1 year $300

they also do a data only plan 2gb for $10 a month say ipad/tablet/internet use

have been using kogan for a few months now

negs , you have to order and wait for a sim which could be an issue if you lose your phone
so i would suggest buying 2 sims at the same time as you have a backup just incase

you should have a phone that supports 850Mhz for coverage and speed

my phone doesnt support 850 so i get a few dead spots but thats my issue , not an issue with the supplied service

I've been with all the cheaper providers over the years and they are just that. CHEAP! Vodafone being the worst, followed by virgin with OPTARSE not far behind. Bit the bullet and went for telstra last year and although they are a bit pricy, the coverage is faultless. And the 4g roll out is well underway. I find myself connected to the 4g network more often than not lately. You do need a 4g capable handset to take advantage of the speed. And what came as a great surprise to me is that their customer service and yes their billing department is outstanding. They have done a lot of work in the last few years on the customer service side of things and it pays off. If you use your phone for business there's really no other option. I can't believe I actually put up with vodafone for 4 years.
